Overview:
Senior Structures & Mechanisms Engineer – Gateway Program

Location:
Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, TX
Are you passionate about human space exploration and contributing to NASA’s next great mission? Astrion, is seeking a Senior Structures and Mechanisms Engineer to support the Gateway Program — a critical element of NASA’s deep space exploration architecture.
In this role, you will provide technical expertise and integration oversight for Gateway’s Structures and Mechanisms systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and mission-ready hardware that enables long-duration human spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subsystem manager and integrator for Gateway Structures & Mechanisms.
  • Develop, interpret, and apply system requirements per NASA Technical Authority design and safety standards.
  • Review and evaluate design, analysis, verification, and test documentation.
  • Conduct technical and safety assessments, identifying areas requiring independent validation.
  • Support program milestones, safety reviews, boards, and panels.
  • Participate in test planning, execution, and verification of structural and mechanical systems.
  • Work cross-functionally with NASA, commercial partners, and international stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide program office support through briefings, reports, and technical inputs.
  • Travel as needed to other NASA centers, commercial partner facilities, and international locations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in aerospace structures or mechanisms engineering.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with NASA and industry partners.
  • Experience in structural/mechanical design, analysis, and testing methods.
  • Familiarity with NASA structural, mechanical, and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience with human spaceflight hardware (Orion, Commercial Crew, Shuttle, ISS).
  • Hands-on experience with design verification, documentation, and testing for manned spacecraft.
  • Background in systems engineering or desire to develop in this area.
