The Tailor is responsible for the maintenance, alteration, and repair of all hotel uniforms, linens, and soft furnishings to ensure a polished, professional appearance for staff and guest areas. This hands-on role combines skilled sewing with inventory management to support the hotel’s high standards of presentation and operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform alterations, repairs, and hemming on staff uniforms (suits, dresses, shirts, pants, aprons, chef coats).
- Measure employees for proper uniform fit and maintain individual sizing records.
- Repair or replace damaged linens (bedding, towels, tablecloths, napkins) to extend usable life.
- Sew labels, name tags, and branding onto new uniforms and linens.
- Conduct regular uniform inspections; identify and retire worn-out items.
- Manage uniform inventory: track issuance, returns, and stock levels; reorder as needed.
- Alter guest clothing upon request with quick turnaround (same day when possible).
- Maintain sewing equipment (industrial machines, sergers, irons) in safe working order.
- Collaborate with Housekeeping and HR on new hire fittings and seasonal uniform updates.
- Ensure all work meets brand standards for stitching quality, thread colour, and logo placement.
- Keep the tailor shop organized, clean, and compliant with health/safety regulations.
