Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Lawyer with deep expertise in UK and UAE tax law, ideally gained within or advising clients in the telecommunications / MNO (Mobile Network Operator) sector. The role involves providing strategic and technical tax advice, managing cross-border tax issues, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation while supporting the business on corporate, indirect, and operational tax matters.
The ideal candidate combines legal expertise with commercial acumen and strong understanding of the telecoms industry’s regulatory and financial landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Advisory & Compliance

Provide legal and strategic advice on UK and UAE tax matters, including corporate, indirect, and withholding taxes.

Manage tax compliance processes, filings, and reporting obligations across both jurisdictions.

Advise on double taxation treaties, permanent establishment risks, and cross-border tax structuring.

Support the business on transfer pricing, VAT, and customs matters related to telecom operations.

Oversee tax audits and liaise with HMRC, FTA (Federal Tax Authority), and other tax authorities.
Transactional Support

Advise on tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and intercompany arrangements.

Review and negotiate commercial agreements (e.g., roaming, licensing, infrastructure sharing) from a tax perspective.

Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and Business Development teams on structuring deals efficiently and compliantly.
Policy, Governance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations and internal policies.

Develop and maintain tax governance frameworks and documentation.

Monitor legislative developments in both jurisdictions and assess their impact on operations.

Train internal stakeholders on key tax and compliance issues.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Certification:

Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal counsel with a specialisation in tax law (UK or UAE qualification preferred).

Additional tax certification (e.g., CTA, ADIT) desirable.

Strong academic background in law, tax, or a related discipline.
Experience:

6–10 years of post-qualification experience in tax law, ideally within a multinational enterprise or top-tier law firm.

Demonstrated expertise in both UK and UAE tax regimes, including corporate, indirect, and international tax matters.

Experience in the telecommunications or MNO industry highly desirable (e.g., infrastructure, licensing, digital services).

Track record of advising on cross-border transactions and structuring.
Skills:

Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.

Deep understanding of international tax principles (BEPS, OECD guidelines, transfer pricing).

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.

Ability to work cross-functionally with finance, legal, and executive teams.

Fluent in English (Arabic is an advantage).
