Tax Specialist

<Responsibilities>

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current regulations.
  • Conduct estate planning activities, including wills, trusts, and estate law considerations, to optimize client and organizational tax positions.
  • Assist with corporate accounting tasks such as general ledger reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, and regulatory reporting.
  • Support audits by providing documentation, explanations of financial transactions, and ensuring adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls.
  • Analyze financial statements and interpret complex financial concepts to advise management on tax implications and strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate on mergers & acquisitions by performing due diligence related to tax liabilities and structuring opportunities.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of securities law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and other regulatory standards affecting taxation.
  • Support non-profit accounting functions such as accounts payable and asset management while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliation, analysis skills application, and financial report interpretation to support accurate financial statement preparation.

<Experience>

  • Proven experience in tax preparation and planning within public accounting or corporate environments.
  • Strong background in estate planning, wills & trusts law, securities law, and non-profit accounting is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in auditing processes, regulatory reporting, and SOX compliance procedures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; experience with financial software is essential.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, budgeting, asset management, private equity, mergers & acquisitions.
  • Excellent analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and financial planning activities is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP standards along with technical accounting principles related to financial statement analysis and preparation.
