This position is a member of our Central Texas/R11 Austin Division.


HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Review and approve sealed engineering plans and specifications submitted by consulting firms for major projects covering proposed construction projects to include, residential and commercial, as well as sewage collection systems and lift stations; coordinate, analyze, and evaluate routine technical water pollution controls and situations dealing with environmental problems, with emphasis on the Edwards Aquifer recharge, transition and contributing zones.

  • Plan and conduct engineering work and be a technical resource for peer consultants, peer review and advise on technical investigations.

  • Evaluate, review, and select, and adapt and modify standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria. Certify work in accordance with the provisions of the Texas Engineering Practice Act as amended, Article 3271a, Vernon’s Annotated Texas Statutes.

  • Plan and conduct complex technical investigations, inspections, and site assessments to determine compliance with the Edward Aquifer Rules; prepare technical reports and make evaluations and recommendations of observed conditions.

  • Coordinate and participate in policy, regulatory issues, and rule development. Plan complex technical projects related to program activities; prepare technical articles and papers for presentations; participate in the development of programmatic guidance with emphasis on sound engineering practices and EAPP integrity; and interact with other local, state and federal agencies. Serve as a technical task or project manager.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in evaluating or preparing engineering documents for development or construction, and/or making assessments regarding environmental or engineering problems

  • Experience in preparing, reviewing, or approving construction or development plans and/or evaluating water pollution control designs

  • Experience interpreting environmental rules and/or regulations.

  • Experience interacting with the public, media and/or regulated community


Qualifications


REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Engineer I

Texas Professional Engineer's license.


Engineer II

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus one year of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

OR

Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer I.


Engineer III

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

TCEQ Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.


Engineer IV

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus three years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer III.


Engineer V

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus four years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer IV.


Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.


CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I-V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I-V series.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Central Texas/R11 Austin Office.
