This position is a member of our External Relations Division.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Supervise the Web and Application Usability Team for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

  • Lead organization-level efforts to develop usable and accessible web content and applications. Plan, oversee, and monitor development and maintenance of the agency’s web information architecture to ensure goal-oriented, task-based navigation for multiple audiences. Collaborate with team, IT staff, and management on agency content strategy to ensure seamless integration of new content. Ensure all web content and related products meet the needs of the intended audience and adhere to agency standards and guidelines, including accessibility.

  • Supervise the work of team staff and establish goals for the team. Perform personnel management functions, which include hiring, developing staff, performance management, and related duties.

  • Oversee the team’s usability research, assessments, and testing of web pages and application interfaces. Review and approve reports and recommendations from results. Make presentations to all levels of management and staff.

  • Advocate for the use of plain language in web content and application designs. Collaborate with program contacts to ensure edits do not change meaning and to obtain additional information to ensure completeness and accuracy. Follow agency style and accessibility guidelines as well as legislative requirements for the web.

  • Keep current on web usability issues and research methods, including best practices for using web analytics. Work with the team to continuously review, update, communicate, and implement the agency’s web standards, guidelines, and operating procedures. Oversee development of agency training and education regarding plain language and other usability topics.


Qualifications


KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience contributing to the information architecture or taxonomy of websites.

  • Experience assessing applications and/or webpages and applying usability best practices and heuristics.

  • Two (2) years of experience supervising a User Experience (UX) or Technology UX (IT/UX) team.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Experience in the administration of a program relevant to assignment.

OR

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the Austin TCEQ External Relations Division.
