Description
The Teacher is responsible for coordinating and supporting academic services for individuals at The Grove, through IMPOWER’s Adolescent Residential Substance Use Treatment Program for adolescents ages 13–17. Individuals served attend school virtually through a Florida Virtual School (FLVS), and the Teacher facilitates student participation in this virtual learning environment while in treatment.
The Teacher supports educational continuity from admission through discharge by coordinating virtual school enrollment, supporting individualized learning plans, monitoring academic progress, maintaining educational documentation in the individuals record and assisting with transition planning to help ensure students return to an appropriate educational setting following completion of treatment.
The position also participates as an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, contributing to treatment planning, progress reviews, and behavioral support strategies that promote both academic progress and positive therapeutic outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities

Establish and maintain a structured, clean, and positive classroom environment through proactive classroom management strategies and strong rapport with students.

Collaborate with the clinical team to develop individualized educational activities and academic goals for each student.

Coordinate enrollment in Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and maintain ongoing communication with FLVS’s teachers regarding student participation, academic progress, and support needs.

Coordinate GED preparation and post-secondary educational planning when appropriate.

Monitor the academic needs of each student and develop strategies to address barriers to learning.

Provide academic support, tutoring, and structured study assistance to help students engage with and complete coursework assigned through their virtual education program.

Monitor and assess student progress toward short-term and long-term academic goals, including goals outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) when applicable.

Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student academic progress and behavior.

Reinforce the “student role” in the classroom and hold all individuals to high expectations believing all students are capable of growth and achievement.

Maintain appropriate standards of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications, Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university required. Teaching certification strongly preferred.

Experience working with at-risk youth or in a residential or community behavioral health setting preferred.

Successfully complete and maintain eligibility through a Level II background screening, and local law check in accordance with applicable laws, licensing requirements and IMPOWER policy.

Valid driver's license, proof of current auto insurance, and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

Successful completion of a pre-employee drug screening.
