Teacher Assistant

ABOUT THE HOUSE OF AUTHENS The House of Authens is a creative development organization built on a simple belief: the arts are the tool — the person is the purpose. We don't teach students to replicate. We teach them to create. Our programs use visual art, music, digital media, and hands-on making to build independent thinking, creative problem-solving, and the confidence to take an idea from nothing and make it real. Summer Camp 2025 is our flagship program serving students ages 5–15 in a full-day, immersive environment. Every week is themed, project-based, and designed to meet each student exactly where they are — then take them further. ————————————————————————————— THE ROLE We are looking for a Teacher's Assistant who loves working with kids and knows how to keep a room running smoothly. You don't need to be an artist — you need to be dependable, patient, and genuinely good with young people. You'll support the lead teacher by helping students stay on track, managing materials, and making sure every child feels seen and safe throughout the day. This role is ideal for someone with childcare experience who wants to be part of a team that takes its work seriously and treats its people with real care. ————————————————————————————— WHAT YOU'LL DO • Assist the lead teacher during daily art lessons and activities • Help students with projects — encouraging them, keeping them engaged, and stepping in when they need guidance or redirection • Prepare and organize art supplies and materials before and after each session • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, snack time, and free periods • Support classroom management — redirecting behavior calmly and positively • Monitor student safety at all times and report any concerns to the lead teacher or camp director • Build positive relationships with students so they feel comfortable and confident • Communicate with the teaching team about what's working and what needs attention • Model the culture we are building: accountability, warmth, genuine engagement, and showing up fully ————————————————————————————— WHO YOU ARE • You are great with kids — patient, warm, and able to hold boundaries without being harsh • You are reliable and self-directed — you see what needs to be done and you do it • You stay calm under pressure and can manage a room full of energetic young people • You are a team player who takes direction well and communicates openly • You don't need to be told twice — accountability is something you bring with you, not something that has to be enforced • You care about being part of something meaningful, not just clocking in and clocking out ————————————————————————————— QUALIFICATIONS Required: • Experience working with children ages 5–15 (childcare, babysitting, tutoring, camp, church programs, mentoring, etc.) • Comfortable managing groups of children in an active environment • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the full summer schedule • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must pass a background check Preferred: • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) • Previous experience in a camp, after-school program, or daycare setting • Interest in the arts (not required, but a plus) ————————————————————————————— WHAT WE OFFER • A team that genuinely cares about its people — staff wellbeing is a design principle, not an afterthought • Real breaks, real lunch, and a culture where downtime is respected • Clear expectations and real tools — no one is left to figure it out alone • An environment where your contribution matters and you are treated as a real part of the team • The chance to be part of something being built from the ground up ————————————————————————————— OUR CULTURE At The House of Authens, freedom and structure are not opposites — they depend on each other. We hold personal accountability as sacred. We make work worth showing up to. Staff are trusted to manage themselves, and in return, we invest in making this a place people are genuinely excited to be. "We want people to come in uncomfortable and leave comfortable — whether that is in a craft or simply in themselves." ————————————————————————————— TO APPLY Submit your resume to Contact@TheHouseofAuthens.com with the subject line: "Teacher's Assistant — Summer 2025" No portfolio needed. Just tell us why you want to be here and what makes you good with kids. The House of Authens is an equal opportunity employer.
