Teacher Assistant F/T Daycare

Position Summary

To assist with lead teacher planned activities, implement IEP/IFSP programs according to teacher prescribed methods and document student progress accurately. Provide direct care. Administer medications. Implement daily activities as outlined in teacher plans. Document student progress.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement program plans according to prescribed methods, and document student’s progress accurately.
  • Attend in-service training as mandated, and apply acquired knowledge in the day-to-day performance of the role.
  • Report any relevant changes noted in the student’s performance and any medical concerns to Lead Teacher.
  • Be aware of areas in which individuals require assistance, and give this assistance without direct supervision.
  • Provide basic first aid.
  • Follow Emergency Plan as needed.
  • Follow universal Precautions and OSHA Guidelines related to Exposure to Blood and Body Fluids.
  • Monitor individuals carefully and bring to the attention of the Lead Teacher any pertinent observations or concerns about individual health care needs.
  • Promptly follow up on Lead Teacher instructions/recommendations.
  • Converse with students, using proper voice tone, tolerance and patience, and maintain zoning.
  • Have knowledge of individual’s rights and ensure that rights are respected.
  • Respect privacy and confidentiality of each student.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to problem identification and solution.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of NC Division of Child Development rules and regulations.
  • Seek out information needed to perform duties by following the proper chain of command.
  • Work closely with co-workers, and communicate information accurately.
  • Complete assigned tasks and, when needed, be willing to complete special tasks.
  • Provide daily direct care of students: changing diapers, cleaning, feeding or assist with feeding, and specific child plans.
  • Designated shifts may change due to enrollment times of children.

Other duties as assigned.

Education/Training

Graduation from High School or successful completion of GED program for a (floater) teacher assistant assigned to multiple classrooms.

North Carolina Early Childhood Credentials (NCECC), plus 3 semester hours in Early Childhood Education for a teacher assistant assigned to one classroom

Necessary Special Qualifications

Must be eighteen years of age or older and possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Maintain current First Aid and infant CPR certification.

Special Skills/Abilities

Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to record basic data and document observations, events and medications. Ability to communicate with other staff and members of the community.

Other Qualifications or Requirements

Mental Effort: Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Have the ability to function independently.

Visual Effort: Must be able to monitor clients from short and long distances. Must maintain visual supervision of children at all times.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting up to 40 pounds independently.

Safety: Behavior problems such as aggression of clients and/or lifting could cause bodily injury.

Working Conditions: Employees work primarily indoors in school program with some exposure to conditions which are slightly disagreeable such as toileting and feeding.
