Teaching Assistant Professor - General Psychology -

The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC.

The Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 9-month Fixed-Term faculty position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. Anticipated begin work date is August 2026.
The area of specialization is open, but the successful candidate will demonstrate prior experience with teaching undergraduate courses in psychology. Given that the primary focus of the position is on teaching, we are particularly interested in candidates who are student-centered, creative, energetic, and committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our students.
Examples of undergraduate courses that the faculty member may teach include, but is not limited to: General Psychology, Developmental Psychology (Childhood, Adolescence, Adult, or Lifespan), Abnormal psychology, and courses in the faculty member’s discipline. As a regional comprehensive university, we value engagement and mentoring of students.
As such, the faculty member is expected to advise undergraduates in the major. Additionally, most courses are offered in person, but integrate technology. Thus, prior experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) is helpful. The typical teaching load for Fixed Term faculty is 4/4 (fall/spring).
