Technical Apprentice (Lab Tech)

I . Positions Reporting Directly to This Position: None

II . Position Objective: The performing of physical property testing on rigid PVC and other developmental projects. Color matching to customer’s requirements.

III . Qualifications: After the three month probation period the candidate must understand fully

the specification requirements for all grades of film including what formulation ingredients effect the physical and visual properties. The individual must be able to work semi independent of any direct supervision and accomplish jobs successfully. Must have propensity to learn test methods. Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma.

IV . Training: Continuous training as new tasks are warranted.

V. Duties and Responsibilites: Shift work, overtime, and call in may be required for the

completion of the jobs.

A. Tasks and Duties

1. In coming raw material inspections

2. Random sampling of semi finished and finished products physical properties tests

3. Collecting samples and preparation for COA

4. File of physical properties test records

5. Familiar with ISO Procedures related to Technical Department Duties

6. New Additive physical properties test if necessary

7. Preparation sample for production lines when requested

B. Machinery and Electrical Devices Used

1. Typewriter and/or computer

2. Tape measure and/or ruler

3. Low temperature impact tester

4. Izod notching and testing machine on a frequent basis

5. Analytical balance for testing of specific gravity and scaling of compounds

6. Colorimeter

7. Vacuum forming machine

8. Occasional use of automatic timer oven for heat stability tests

9. Surgace roughness tester

10. Gloss value tester

11. Heat deflection detector

12. Gardner drop impact tester

13. Lamination press

14. Oven for heat shrinkage and spring back tests

C. Physical Activity Required and Visual Requirements

1. Occasional climbing, ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like using feet and legs and/or arms and hands. Some agility needed.

2. Infrequent occasions of balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically

moving surfaces.

3. Some stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling,

grasping, fingering and feeling.

4. Some lifing and/or raising objects from a higher to a lower position of weight of no more than 40 pounds.

5. Subject to repetitive motions of wrist and hand movements.

6. Machine operation, inspection, close assembly, clerical and administrative

duties.

7. Other areas of criteria requiring accurate and precise measurements.

8. Individual is required to differentiate colors, contaminates, chemicals and depth perception.

D. Work Enviromental Conditions

Laboratory Working Area

1. Inside environmental conditions protected from outdoor weather conditions

but are subject to some high heat conditions.

2. Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, chemicals, falling debris, gases, fumes and odors.

3. Oils and other fluids, pigments, solvents and other flammable goods are used within the work environment.

Plant working Area

1. Subject to cold outdoor weather temperatures and extreme heat conditions from machines (temperatures above 100oF over 400oF).

2. Environment subject to fumes, gases, odors, poor ventilation and dusts.

3. Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, chemicals, falling debris and oil and other fluids.

4. Environment is subject to extremely high noise levels.

VI. Authority and Decision Making

1. Works directly under the supervision of the Technical Forman and is controlled by company policies and procedures.

2. Position is authorizied to evaluate physical property and quality of material to meet specifications and reject as needed.
