Technical Consultant I, Water Engineer

The Role

As a Technical Consultant, Water Engineer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc.

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Environmental Engineering/Hydrology/Civil Engineering from an institution recognised by Engineers Australia;
  • Technical experience in the following areas, gained on mining projects in Australia:
    • Site water management, water balance investigations, flood studies, rainfall-runoff and hydraulic modelling, surface-groundwater interactions, water quality modelling and management, dam hydrology;
    • Concept and detailed design of road and railway culverts, bridges, floodways, road drainage, flood levees, dams and major creek diversions;
    • Concept and detailed design of urban and industrial stormwater drainage systems incorporating Water Sensitive Urban Design principles.
  • Experience delivering hydrological studies and assessments in compliance with the methods outlined in Australian Rainfall and Runoff (2019).
  • Experience working for mining clients such as BHP, Rio Tinto and Fortescue (or similar), and a demonstrated understanding of business drivers, hydrologic risks and opportunities that frequently need to be addressed and managed;
  • Demonstrated rainfall-runoff and 2D flood modelling experience using QGIS, RORB and TUFLOW software packages;
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams solving complex water issues;
  • Excellent communication skills and actively seeks and promotes collaboration with team members and co-workers;
  • Advanced technical report writing skills;
  • Proven track record in project delivery with good commercial acumen;
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop client relationships and grow a consulting business;
  • Active in national hydrological and/or engineering communities.
  • Have a good understanding of Australian site conditions, hydrology and associated surface water related risks that often need to be managed by mining companies.

About You

To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:

  • Well versed in the application of hydrological methods outlined in Australian Rainfall and Runoff (2019).
  • Suitable qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Hydrology and/or Civil Engineering. Post doctorate qualifications preferred.
