Position Overview
The Technical Designer is responsible for creating and delivering accurate, innovative, and efficient design solutions for live event and entertainment projects. This role requires expertise in Autodesk Inventor, technical documentation, and fabrication processes to transform project concepts into clear, buildable designs. The Technical Designer works closely with the Technical Design Manager, Fabrication, Project Management, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution from design through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the design of solutions to customer needs using rental inventory or custom fabrication, in collaboration with the Technical Design and Engineering Manager.
- Generate detailed construction drawings using Autodesk Inventor for implementation by the Fabrication Department.
- Collaborate with Fabrication, Project Management, and other departments to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and alignment of design solutions.
- Partner with the General Manager to develop stock products, providing technical insight and expertise.
- Create and maintain complete bills of materials (BOM) to support purchasing and project planning.
- Review project requirements and translate them into precise design documentation and drawings.
- Provide technical input during project meetings and respond to design-related inquiries.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards, materials, and manufacturing processes to enhance design quality and accuracy.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts related to design workflows, documentation, and communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Excel, and other relevant design tools.
- Previous experience in technical design with familiarity in fabrication and live event production processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design documentation.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to evolving project needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of industry standards, rigging principles, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in team settings.
- Relevant education or equivalent work experience in technical design, engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, technical specifications, and documentation processes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while working on CAD and technical drawings.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials, drawings, or equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move within fabrication and warehouse environments as needed to review projects or collaborate with teams.
- Manual dexterity to operate computer equipment, office machinery, and measurement tools.
- Visual acuity to read detailed drawings, blueprints, schematics, and digital displays.
- Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching when handling design samples or interacting with production materials.
- Must be able to safely navigate a fabrication or warehouse environment, including exposure to moderate noise, dust, or moving mechanical parts during design review.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
