Job Description

We are seeking a freelance Fiber Arts Technical Editor and Pattern Designer to support the development of beginner-friendly craft kits. This role will focus primarily on crochet, with opportunities to contribute across other fiber art categories.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity with flexible scheduling and the potential for long-term collaboration.

What You’ll Do

- Edit and refine existing crochet patterns and instructions for clarity, accuracy, and consistency

- Ensure all instructions are easy to follow for beginner to beginner - intermediate crafters

- Standardize terminology and formatting (for the US & UK market)

- Identify gaps, unclear steps, or technical errors and provide solutions

- Create original crochet patterns based on CAD designs or product concepts

- Develop step-by-step video tutorials based on written instructions

- Assist in creating step-by-step photography or lifestyle imagery for marketing and instructional use

- Contribute to instruction writing and editing for other fiber arts, including:

• Embroidery
• Punch Needle
• Cross Stitch
• Latch Hook

About the Work

- Content includes printed instruction booklets and digital PDFs

- Audience: Beginner to beginner-intermediate crafters (tween through adult)

- Projects range from individual SKUs to small batches with rolling deadlines

- Work occurs during product development and pre-finalization stages to ensure accuracy before production

- Initial priority will focus on crochet SKUs, with additional categories expanding over time

What We’re Looking For

- Strong experience writing or editing crochet patterns and instructions

- Ability to translate complex techniques into clear, beginner-friendly language

- Familiarity with standard crochet terminology (US preferred)

- Experience working with patterns, diagrams, or sample-based instructions

- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills

- Reliable with deadlines in a project-based workflow

Nice to Have

- Experience across multiple fiber arts (embroidery, cross stitch, etc.)

- Video creation or tutorial development experience

- Photography or content creation skills related to crafts

Work Details
