Job Description: Technical Manager (High-Rise)

Location: Dubai, UAE

Sector: Tier-1 Contractor / Engineering Consultancy

Reporting to: Project Director / Technical Director

Role Objective

To lead the technical coordination and design management process for a high-rise project. The Technical Manager ensures that all shop drawings, material submittals, and engineering calculations are fully coordinated across all disciplines (Structural, Architectural, MEP, and Facade) and comply with both the contract specifications and UAE local authority regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Coordination: Lead the "Clash Detection" process. Ensure that MEP pipes don't hit structural beams and that architectural finishes align with site realities.
  • Authority Approvals: Act as the primary technical point of contact for Dubai Municipality (DM), Dubai Civil Defense (DCD), DEWA, and RTA. Ensure the building receives its final completion certificates.
  • BIM Management: Oversee the BIM (Building Information Modeling) team to ensure the 3D model is accurate, up-to-date, and used as the "Single Source of Truth" for construction.
  • Shop Drawing Management: Manage the production and submission schedule of thousands of shop drawings, ensuring they are approved by the Consultant before the site team needs them.
  • Value Engineering: Identify technical alternatives that save money or time without compromising the building's structural integrity or aesthetic.
  • RFI Management: Provide technical solutions to complex Requests for Information (RFIs) from the site team when design gaps are discovered.
  • Facade & Specialized Systems: Overlook the technical design of specialized high-rise elements, such as the Building Maintenance Unit (BMU), high-speed elevators, and complex glass curtain walls.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience:
  • 15+ years in technical and design management.
  • Must have led the technical team on at least one G+50 (or higher) tower in Dubai.
  • Expert knowledge of Dubai Green Building Regulations (Al Sa'fat) and DCD Life Safety Codes.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
  • Deep understanding of Structural-MEP integration in vertical construction.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex International Building Codes (IBC/NFPA).

Core Competencies

  • Attention to Detail: Noticing a 50mm discrepancy in a drawing that could cause a 1-million dirham rework later.
  • Problem Solving: The ability to find an engineering "workaround" when site conditions don't match the original design.
  • Interdisciplinary Knowledge: You must speak the "language" of the Structural Engineer, the Interior Designer, and the MEP Contractor simultaneously.
  • Patience & Persistence: Navigating the rigorous approval cycles of Dubai government authorities.
