JOB PURPOSE
BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical advice on the Typhoon Weapon Platform, at Main and Deployed Operating Bases. You will provide technical support to maintainers in their investigation of aircraft, system, Line Replaceable Items (LRI) faults, utilising the approved dataset, personal experience and recourse to the Technical Query (TQ) service as appropriate. You will also provide technical advice to the RSAF in generating National Technical Instructions, informed by Industry provided approved data. Maintaining the Typhoon Asset Gateway capability. Maintaining a knowledge sharing network across the UK based In Service Support Team (ISST), Typhoon Design Organization Team, Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) and the RSAF. Ensuring compliance with all Function and Contractual requirements
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- When nominated, deputise as Technical Specialist LTS1, acting within the bounds of any delegations and authorisations.
- Provide technical support to Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) and PC Aircraft Generation Flights (AGF), Depth Shops and Scheduled Maintenance & Upgrade (SMU) facility aircraft maintainers, in their fault diagnosis and system / LRI investigations, to support continuing airworthiness through the use of approved data and the TQ procedure, including:
- Support to Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) recovery, diagnostic, fault rectification and analysis.
- Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU) recovery, diagnostic and analysis.
- Diagnostic interrogations utilising the AGERD 1648 test set ( DBTE/HLBA ).
- Support to the AGF, SMU and AEC Field Service Reps (FSR) utilising specialist test equipment (AGERD 1162 T/S, RF Anritsu T/S).
- Provide LTS support to flight/ground trials, diagnostic fault investigation and recovery, MMD testing, National Instruction First Time Compliance and aircraft PMDS downloads for fault diagnostic and rectification.
- Support to Logistic tasks and Repair instructions.
- Provide Counter Part development to RSAF candidates.
- Analysis of Technical Support Specialist Reports, to identify choke points in the system and areas where improvements can be made, suggesting corrective actions as appropriate.
- Maintain a Typhoon Asset Gateway service to ensure the accurate categorisation of suspected u/s assets, to prevent serviceable items entering the repair cycle.
- Maintain a knowledge sharing network across the UK based In Service Support Team (ISST), Typhoon Design Organization Team, Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) and the RSAF.
- Assist in the analysis of Technical Specialist Reports and data provided by In Service Data Management Team, to identify trends in maintenance and operations, to identify where improvements can be made.
- Provide technical advice to the RSAF in generating National Technical Instructions, informed by Industry provided approved data.
- Ensure compliance with all Function and Contractual requirements.
- Develop and provide structured On the Job training for, Saudi National Technical Specialist Staff, in the form of training, coaching, work experience and mentoring.
- Contribute to service delivery performance reporting by the provision of regular reporting of performance.
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION Essential
- Have at least extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training OR extensive proven experience on same aircraft type (Typhoon).
- Have substantial proven experience in a relevant management role.
- High level of interpersonal skill to co ordinate a number of activities and the ability to communicate, influence and direct decision making.
- A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification OR Part 66 licensed (current or lapsed), or suitable equivalent technical license.
- Training if required.
- Fluent in English.
- The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level, prior to starting the new role or commencing employment in KSA, SCE membership must be maintained throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable
- Experience of BAESSAI, Typhoon maintenance and Salam operations.
- Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Capable of working independently, or as part of a team, to tight operational timescales.
- Able to work on their own initiative, with minimum supervision, to resolve complex technical issues.
RECRUITMENT Essential
- Familiar level of leadership and supervisory skills, in a Pt M and 145 environment.
Desirable
- Experience of managing a team of technical specialists.
- Sound oral and written two way communication skills with the ability to be tactful, discreet and confident in dealing with people at all levels.
