The qualifying candidate must possess the drive to achieve superior customer satisfaction. The opening is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to the Supervisor in FAME.

  • Operate air, power, and hand tools such as bandsaw, belt sanders and engravers to prepare or cut out cross section samples of various types of joining technologies
  • Use of microscopes to take cross sectional images of welds, self-piercing rivets, flow drill screws etc.
  • Organized computer data entry helping to maintain organized files and drives to ensure proper data storage
  • Accurately measuring cross sections using Keyence VHX software to Rivian Specifications.
  • Accurately document and report data in Excel and report to internal customers results using Jira
  • Effectively use hand measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures
  • Complete visual inspections and or destructive testing of components, welds and other joining technologies
  • Use joining inspection sheets to identify weld ID’s and other specific critical joints
  • Standing and working with hands on belt sander or bandsaw for long periods of time preparing cross sections
  • Support manufacturing team equipment and process capability analysis
  • Execute product and process validation / inspection plans
  • Assist in performing and teaching all processes and assignments within the department, with the ability to fill in as needed
  • Identify and contain suspect defective material
  • Perform metal cutting and polishing to create measurable lab samples of welded joints
  • Responsible to participate in quality related continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects
  • Develop, maintain, and improve the quality culture within responsible area
  • May perform other duties as assigned

  • Welding, fabrication, metal working, or weld inspection experience required
  • Laboratory equipment experience
  • 3+ years of high-volume manufacturing or quality experience (or)
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Problem solving experience
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, email – ability to manage files and records effectively
  • Statistical process control / control charts
  • Destructive or non-destructive inspection or testing experience
  • Kaizen / continuous improvement process experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to stand for 8-12 hours per day.
  • Required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform all duties in a working environment that may contain dust, high noise levels, hot and cold weather.
