The qualifying candidate must possess the drive to achieve superior customer satisfaction. They must be goal-oriented, enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, with the ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization to be effectively successful. The opening is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to the Supervisor in FAME.
- Operate air, power, and hand tools such as bandsaw, belt sanders and engravers to prepare or cut out cross section samples of various types of joining technologies
- Use of microscopes to take cross sectional images of welds, self-piercing rivets, flow drill screws etc.
- Organized computer data entry helping to maintain organized files and drives to ensure proper data storage
- Accurately measuring cross sections using Keyence VHX software to Rivian Specifications.
- Accurately document and report data in Excel and report to internal customers results using Jira
- Effectively use hand measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures
- Complete visual inspections and or destructive testing of components, welds and other joining technologies
- Use joining inspection sheets to identify weld ID’s and other specific critical joints
- Standing and working with hands on belt sander or bandsaw for long periods of time preparing cross sections
- Support manufacturing team equipment and process capability analysis
- Execute product and process validation / inspection plans
- Assist in performing and teaching all processes and assignments within the department, with the ability to fill in as needed
- Identify and contain suspect defective material
- Perform metal cutting and polishing to create measurable lab samples of welded joints
- Responsible to participate in quality related continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects
- Develop, maintain, and improve the quality culture within responsible area
- May perform other duties as assigned
- Welding, fabrication, metal working, or weld inspection experience required
- Laboratory equipment experience
- 3+ years of high-volume manufacturing or quality experience (or)
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Problem solving experience
- Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, email – ability to manage files and records effectively
- Statistical process control / control charts
- Destructive or non-destructive inspection or testing experience
- Kaizen / continuous improvement process experience
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to stand for 8-12 hours per day.
- Required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform all duties in a working environment that may contain dust, high noise levels, hot and cold weather.
