Technician, Research Ophthalmic

Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a skilled and motivated Research Ophthalmic Technician to support clinical research initiatives under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. This role involves assisting with diagnostic testing, patient assessments, and data collection to advance research in ophthalmic science. Job Duties

• Enroll and schedule study participants for clinical research visits
• Collect detailed medical histories and maintain accurate records
• Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment (e.g., OCT, visual field, topography)
• Perform postoperative refractions and assist with patient assessments
• Support RxSight LAL patients with refractive targeting and light treatments
• Assist refractive surgery team weekly (scrub in or operate lasers)
• Perform other related duties as needed to support research and clinical teams
• Support clinical trials focused on ophthalmic diseases and surgical outcomes
• Maintain and calibrate specialized ophthalmic equipment used in research and patient care
• Assist faculty and residents during clinical procedures and research-related patient interactions
• Ensure compliance with study protocols, IRB regulations, and departmental standards
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including optometrists, surgeons, and research staff
• Contribute to data collection, entry, and quality assurance for ophthalmology research studies
• Educate patients on study procedures and post-treatment care specific to ophthalmic interventions
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two years of relevant experience.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT).

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong refracting skills are preferred.
