What to Expect
The Residential Energy team is seeking a Business Development Analyst to support techno-economic analysis for Tesla’s residential energy solutions. In this role, you will evaluate product economics while contributing to the development of new commercial offerings across Tesla’s energy ecosystem — including Third-Party Ownership (TPO), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), and Home Energy Management (HEMs) solutions.
The ideal candidate will thrive in Tesla’s fast-paced, mission-driven environment, combining foundational knowledge in energy market analysis and techno-economic modeling with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Your ability to translate data-driven insights into actionable business recommendations will be key to supporting the growth of Tesla’s residential energy portfolio.
What You'll Do
Techno-Economic Modeling:

Evaluate the product economics of Powerwall for sales enablement and demand generation, including savings estimates, payback periods, and financial metrics to support marketing and sales teams

Analyze utility tariffs and wholesale electricity markets to assess their impact on the value of distributed solar, storage, and V2X systems

Support policy analysis to understand regulatory impacts on residential energy products and forecast market trends to guide product positioning

Develop energy optimization and financial models for Tesla’s residential energy products (Solar, Solar Roof, Powerwall) and V2X systems to evaluate and maximize economic value
Commercial Offerings:

Support VPP and V2X strategies with techno-economic analysis, managing partnerships with electricity providers and building business cases for market launches

Develop Tesla’s Home Energy Management (HEMs) solutions to facilitate optimization and management of behind-the-meter assets

Collaborate with product, sales, and policy teams to identify new markets and product opportunities, expanding residential solar and storage globally
What You'll Bring-
Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience

2+ years of experience in the electricity industry with demonstrated expertise in energy product economics

Basic technical background in financial modeling and quantitative analysis of energy systems

Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and model development

Familiarity with optimization frameworks and techno-economic analysis tools

Excellent communication skills to present technical findings to executive stakeholders

High proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Expected Compensation
$88,000 - $132,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
