GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role involves supervision and coordination of Technology Peer Mentors, current students who guide their peers in using campus technologies. During the semester, Tech Peer Mentors are available for walk-in help at their service point in the Wilkens Library Learning Commons. Tech Peers are also embedded in some classes that require additional technology support. Prior to the start of Fall and Spring semesters, Technology Peer Mentors lead and staff student Technology Orientations. The Tech Peer Mentor Coordinator will also recruit, hire, and train students as Tech Peer Mentors, update Technology Orientation curriculum and Moodle page in coordination with Student Engagement, IT, and the TLC, and attend student technology orientations, assisting the Tech Peer Mentors in delivering the material, as needed. The Tech Peer Mentor Coordinator will also work with the Academic Support Coordinator to integrate Tech Peer Mentor operations with Academic Support Services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate Tech Peer Mentors in accordance with Academic Support Services and college standards.
  • Schedule staffing for the Tech Peer Mentor service point each semester.
  • Assist students in using campus technologies.
  • Assist students in using other academic support resources in person and online.
  • Consults with the Academic Support Coordinator, faculty advisors, and support staff regarding academic support services.
  • Communicate in person and remotely with the O'Neill Center for Disability Services staff, as necessary.
  • Contributes to the assessment of the effectiveness of learning support services.
  • Participates in staff meetings and training.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based file management systems (Google Docs, Office365, etc.).
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (Blackboard, Moodle, etc.).
  • Familiarity and experience with instructional technologies.
  • Experience in training or teaching groups.
  • Supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with students with limited English proficiency and students in developmental education classes.
  • Experience working in a community college environment with diverse populations, especially underprepared, disadvantaged, and non-traditional students.
  • Experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Experience tutoring at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Experience designing and implementing training curriculum.

COMPENSATION
: Anticipated starting pay rate $36.55/hour (Interval 1) for 18 hours/week. This is a year-round part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit position. It is funded 100% from U.S. Department of Education Title III, Part A Strengthening Institutions Program grant (# P031A230075) and is contingent upon the continued availability of federal grant funding through September 30, 2028.
