    Salary
    • Non-Certificated Supervisory Scale Grade F05: $63273.60 - $111,248.00 annually
    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.Please see linked salary scale for the full range.

    Role

    The primary function of this position is to lead a team of User Support Specialists across multiple schools in providing computer and other technologies as required to support curriculum and administrative goals. Reporting directly to the Assistant Supervisor of Technology Support, the Technology Support Specialist I, this position falls under the Department of Technology Infrastructure's, Technical Support division.

    Essential Functions

    Performs technical work.
    • Serve as the primary escalation point for advanced technical issues unresolved by User Support Specialists.
    • Sets-up and installs technology equipment including desktop computers, laptops, printers, and related peripherals.
    • Installs and configures system approved software as well as software updates/upgrades and reports non-approved software or licensing issues to leadership.
    • Assists the User Support Specialists with maintaining instructional, administrative and media center hardware, software and peripherals by training, mentoring or shadowing.
    • Performs PC/peripheral troubleshooting on laptops, printers, related peripherals and local area networks.
    • Assists with updates, upgrades and patches on software and hardware as required and utilizes management applications for a variety of tasks including installing, evaluating or monitoring FCPS software and / or hardware for performance or interoperability issues.


    Provides technical expertise and support at multiple locations around the county.
    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned User Support Specialists supporting schools within the designated geographic region. Provide coaching, performance evaluations, technical guidance and professional development for assigned User Support Specialists.
    • Monitor ticket queues and service metrics to maintain service level expectations. Assign and prioritize work orders and technical resources to ensure timely resolution.
    • Conduct weekly User Support team meetings and daily touchpoint meetings, as needed,
    • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new support personnel.
    • Meet regularly (minimum quarterly) with all assigned school administrators to assess their specific technology needs and provide status updates on ongoing projects.
    • Provides technical expertise and ongoing support to users of desktop computers, laptops, local area networks, printers, and related peripherals and communicates unresolved technical issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
    • Coordinates and communicates with school staff to determine performance gaps that meet identified technology needs and assist in the implementation of technology initiatives.
    • Lead the rollout of new hardware and software across regional campuses, ensuring all devices meet district security and configuration standards.


    Maintains processes that ensure integrity and security of FCPS data and technology systems.
    • Assists in the collection, comparison and analysis of data to improve performance of equipment and customer support.
    • Ensure adherence to district cybersecurity standards and policies and inform leadership of issues that could impact security of FCPS networks and technology systems.
    • Maintain an accurate inventory of all technology assets within the region and coordinate device lifecycle management.
    • Assist with endpoint security management, patching compliance, and vulnerability remediation and promote safe technology practices among staff and students.


    Participates in technology training.
    • Attends meetings and trainings to maintain and upgrade skills as required for the position.
    • Organizes and conducts in-service activities for staff on software, hardware and appropriate workflows, processes and requirements.
    • Works with staff to develop the necessary skills to actively use the instructional and administrative technology available in the building and trains and provides professional development to User Support Specialists to support this effort.


    Other Functions
    • Overtime may be required.
    • Work effectively with others in the use and support of technology.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Technology Support.


    Required Qualifications
    • High school degree or equivalent.
    • Minimum two (2) years experience working in technology as related to computer and peripheral support to users.
    • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or "lead" capacity.
    • Skills needed to install, maintain and troubleshoot technology currently being used in fcps, i.e. computers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, data projectors, etc.
    • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to lift and carry forty (40) pounds.
    • Ability to climb and work from a ladder and work in confined spaces.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle to travel to school assignments.
    • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Associate Degree or higher with coursework in computer systems or equivalent training/experience in a related field.
    • Formalized coursework in technology and computer systems (i.e. PC troubleshooting and repair).
    • Certificate based on current accepted industry standards (i.e. Comptia A+).
    • Experience in a K-12 school setting that uses technology for both instruction and administration.
    • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
