Summary of Work

As an Environmental Engineer for the Air Quality Division, you will be a part of a team that protects and improves the environment through reviewing and implementing air quality policies on a variety of air quality issues.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead various projects associated with state implementation planning, development, and implementation, such as exceptional events implementation and demonstrations
  • Support monitoring group on periodic projects by providing clean air act technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and guidance
  • Review and provide feedback on draft work products developed by staff for complex source permitting prior to management review.
  • Coordinate with, advise, and make recommendations to management on projects.
  • Assist with Department actions on new federal rules and policy related to review, interpretation and impacts assessments to North Dakota, comment letter drafting, and ongoing support as requested from management.
  • Assist in state implementation planning and development.
  • Assist in unique Division of Air Quality tasks as directed by management

To succeed in this position, you must be able to interpret and explain engineering and scientific concepts, documents, policies, and regulations to stakeholders in a way that leads to compliance; enforce rules objectively, consistently, and fairly; and have work experience with databases and spreadsheets.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DEQ will not provide sponsorships.

To be considered for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree in an engineering field and one (1) year of experience in air quality, environmental systems or controls, or air quality regulations. A master's degree may substitute for one (1) year of work experience.
