Temporary Healthcare Intern - Summer

Summary:

The Temporary Summer Healthcare Intern supports all members of the care team, with a primary focus on addressing patient needs between visits and providing on-demand a ssistance within the clinic as needed. This role is primarily back-office, encompassing clerical responsibilities as well as designated clinical support duties when a ppropriate .

As part of the Shadow Program, this position also offers aspiring healthcare students' valuable exposure to administrative functions and the day-to-day workflow of a clinical setting. The internship includes four hours per week of unpaid shadowing time with a provider or nurse, as appropriate , and will work for the duration of approximately 8- 1 2 weeks this summer.

Primary Responsibilities:

Administrative & Clerical Support

  • Prepare patient forms, developmental and/or behavioral screening tools, and templated letters for provider review and signature
  • Enter specific historical data into the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Retrieve outside medical records during patient appointments
  • Contact patients with normal test results
  • Call patients regarding form pickup and other non-clinical needs
  • Fax documents and support general back-office clerical functions
  • Serve as a liaison between front and back office teams as needed
  • Perform various front office duties as assigned

Clinical Support

  • Perform vision and hearing screenings
  • Obtain and document patient history
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms
  • Stock supplies and monitor expiration dates

Additional Expectations

  • Complete all required annual online trainings
  • Float and provide support at any/all Allegro Pediatrics clinic locations as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the clinic manager

  • M ust have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to all clinics as staffing needs change
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Background check
  • Drug testing i n compliance with Washington State B ill 5123 for this safety-sensitive position .
  • To uphold safety for all employees and patients, we continue to require vaccination status for all new hires, including remote or hybrid schedules, at time of hire and annually
  • Current COVID booster, or as newly released, and annually each fall
  • We require flu immunizations at time of hire, or as newly released, and annually each fall
  • Various other immunization requirements that we can discuss during your interview
  • All employees are currently required to wear a surgical, KN95 or N95 mask at all times while in clinic, patient facing
Education:
  • Must be enrolled in a pre-med or nursing course of study at an accredited college or university
  • High School/GED diploma or higher
Schedule:
  • Must be available two days during the week.
  • M inimum of 8 weeks available over a typical 12-week period during the summer months.
  • Must be available the first week for orientation and training
  • Start Dates: June 8 , 2026
  • Working 20 hours a week, in 8–10-hour shifts
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
The following is required to perform the essential functions of this role.
While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in an office/clinic setting, are as follows:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking and bending
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English and communicate effectively
