Primary Purpose of Position
This employee serves as one of the two primary milkers at the dairy unit, and also provides the labor in feeding animals, heat and pregnancy checking, calving, cleaning dairy facility, maintaining dairy pastures, using all dairy related equipment such as tractors, mowers, bobcat, and irrigation equipment that is necessary to perform tasks associated with the dairy.
Requirements:
Employee must run a full-scale dairy operation that include milking, calving, animal health and feeding and working independently.
Employee must use farm equipment to maintain operational task and assist with cropping practices of the general farm operation to provide hay and silage needs for the unit.
Employee must use milking equipment, data loggers, farm equipment and irrigation pumps/systems on a regular bases to fulfill daily duties.
Employee must keep records of daily milk production, heat checking, feed usage, breeding and animal treatment related information.
Employee must work with researchers and instructors using the dairy for data or laboratory exercises.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The dairy operates as a full-scale production dairy on the university farm, fulfilling teaching, research, demonstration and production needs for the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
