About the Role:

The Non Union Janitor at our Catholic School site plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position ensures that all school facilities are kept in excellent condition through regular cleaning, waste management, and minor maintenance tasks. The janitor contributes to the overall health and safety standards by adhering to established cleaning protocols and promptly addressing any hazards or maintenance issues. This role requires a dependable individual who can work independently and as part of a team to support the smooth operation of the school. Ultimately, the janitor’s efforts directly impact the comfort and well-being of the entire school community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and supplies, with a commitment to following safety guidelines.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an educational or similar institutional environment.
  • Familiarity with environmentally friendly cleaning practices and products.
  • Basic maintenance skills such as minor repairs or equipment troubleshooting.
  • Certification in workplace safety or hazardous materials handling.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with school staff and supervisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste and recyclables in accordance with school policies.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, reporting any shortages or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards and communicate these promptly.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for school events or activities as required, ensuring spaces are prepared and restored appropriately.

Skills:

The janitor uses their knowledge of cleaning techniques and safety protocols daily to ensure all areas meet hygiene standards and are safe for occupants. Physical stamina and attention to detail are essential for performing thorough cleaning and maintenance tasks efficiently. Communication skills help in reporting issues and coordinating with other staff to support school operations. Preferred skills such as basic maintenance and environmentally friendly practices enhance the janitor’s ability to contribute to a sustainable and well-maintained facility. Full-time 40 hours per week, temporary at Nouvel High School with the ability to move into full-time work following the assignment. Monday through Friday 2pm-1030pm.
