We are seeking an experienced Teradata Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and support enterprise-scale Teradata environments. The role involves end-to-end database administration, performance tuning, capacity planning, security management, and close collaboration with Teradata support, application teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Database Administration & Operations
Perform comprehensive Teradata DBA activities including backup & recovery, patching, system monitoring, database security, object creation, and client installations.
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Teradata base software in coordination with Teradata support.
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation to support production Teradata systems.
Manage environment setup across development, test, and production.
Performance, Capacity & Availability
Monitor and optimize database performance, capacity, and utilization.
Perform SQL performance tuning and collaborate with users and developers to design and implement optimized queries.
Identify, analyze, and resolve recurring performance and availability issues.
Coordinate with the Teradata PDCR team for report generation, analysis, and performance recommendations.
Lead capacity planning, space utilization analysis, and data growth forecasting.
Incident, Change & Service Management
Provide L2 and L3 support for Teradata platforms.
Handle Incident, Problem, Service Request, and Service Outage Management.
Initiate and execute Change Requests following defined Change Management processes.
Manage Patch and Release activities (minor releases).
Log and track technical support tickets with the Teradata vendor helpdesk and drive resolution.
Security & Governance
Implement and manage data security, user access, and role-based authorization policies.
Ensure alignment with information planning, data governance, data models, and enterprise standards.
Architecture & Technical Expertise
Demonstrate strong expertise in Teradata architecture concepts including:
Partitioning, Primary & Secondary Indexes (PI/SI)
Data skewness analysis
Statistics gathering and management
Workload Management (WLM) and priority scheduling
Create and manage physical database structures based on physical design specifications.
Review and validate database designs and SQL for development teams.
Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with cross-functional teams with varying levels of Teradata expertise, including teams using Informatica and MicroStrategy.
Guide team members in making sound technical decisions.
Research new Teradata features and communicate their usage and benefits in a clear, simple manner.
Coordinate with Teradata for incident escalation, feature enablement, migrations, and new system onboarding.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Produce periodic operational, performance, and capacity reports.
Conduct Proof-of-Concept (PoC) testing for new Teradata capabilities and enhancements.
Strong hands-on experience as a Teradata DBA in enterprise environments.
In-depth knowledge of Teradata architecture, performance tuning, capacity management, and security.
Experience working with vendor support teams and managing enterprise incidents and changes.
Ability to collaborate effectively with application development and analytics teams.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
