We are seeking dynamic, inspiring, and effective test prep tutors to join our team, working both virtually and in students' homes across Manhattan and parts of Hoboken and Jersey City that are accessible by public transit. Ivy Tutor is an emerging tutoring and college advising group. We pride ourselves on delivering memorable tutoring experiences to students in Manhattan and New Jersey as well as a non-local clientele. Our mission is to empower students to reach their full potential and achieve exceptional results on test day.

About you

Natural teaching ability is the most important requirement. The best applicants will be those who can efficiently break down complex concepts into plain language. Applicants will be asked to explain concepts during the interview process.

We seek tutors who embrace an evidence-based ethos. To the extent possible, we do what evidence tells us will work or suggests will work.

Some tutoring experience is preferred, but we will train candidates who possess natural gifts.

Compensation

• Virtual Tutoring: Starts at $75 per hour of live instruction
• In-home Tutoring (Manhattan): Starts at $85 per hour of live instruction.
• Onboarding/Lesson Prep/Training: $20 an hour
• Full public transport reimbursement
• W-2 Position (not 1099): Enjoy higher net earnings

Note: Tutors typically see a 50/50 split between virtual and in-home tutoring. For every hour of live instruction, tutors can expect to spend roughly 15 minutes on lesson prep, review and communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalized tutoring to students focusing on test preparation, particularly in Math.
• Utilize teaching skills to effectively convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Adapt curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.
• Utilize presentation skills to deliver engaging lessons.
• Plan and execute lessons tailored to students' learning styles and needs.
• Write recap of each lesson.

What we require:

• Record of 1450+ on SAT or 33+ ACT. Equivalents from other exams (e.g., GRE or GMAT) are acceptable
• Comfort teaching SAT & ACT Math in addition to verbal sections
• Bachelor's degree from a top-tier college or a graduate degree from a Research I (also known as R1) university
• Reside in the New York Metropolitan Area
• 50+ hours of documented or verifiable tutoring/teaching experience
• 2 year commitment
