Testing Engineer – Cable Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Testing Engineer is responsible for conducting electrical, mechanical, and material testing of cables to ensure compliance with applicable standards and customer specifications. The role involves laboratory testing, quality verification, documentation, and coordination with production and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities. Testing & Inspection

• Perform routine, sample, and type tests on LV, MV, and HV cables.
• Conduct electrical tests including:
• Conductor resistance test
• Insulation resistance test
• High voltage withstand test
• Partial discharge test
• Spark test
• Perform mechanical and material tests such as:
• Tensile strength and elongation
• Hot set test
• Armour resistance
• Sheath thickness and dimensional checks
• Ensure all tests comply with IEC, BS, ASTM, UL, or customer standards.

Quality Control

• Verify raw materials and finished products meet specifications.
• Identify non-conformities and initiate corrective actions.
• Support internal and external quality audits (ISO 9001).
• Maintain traceability and testing records.

Laboratory & Equipment Management

• Operate and maintain testing equipment safely.
• Ensure calibration of all laboratory instruments.
• Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare accurate test reports and certificates.
• Maintain detailed documentation for compliance and audits.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and production teams to resolve testing issues.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years in cable manufacturing or cable testing.
• Strong knowledge of cable construction and materials.
• Familiarity with international testing standards (IEC, BS, ASTM, UL).
• Experience handling MV, LV or HV testing equipment and laboratory instruments.
• Good analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
