Job Description
The Welder applies advanced welding skills to join, fabricate, and repair metal components and structures. The Welder follows design specifications, blueprints, and safety guidelines while performing precise work. The Welder selects appropriate materials, welding equipment, and methods to produce high-quality finishes in various environments.
Key Duties
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents
- Select suitable welding processes, such as arc, MIG, TIG, and oxy-fuel welding
- Inspect workpieces for conformity to specifications before, during, and after welding
- Position, align, and clamp metal components to secure sections in place
- Set up and operate welding equipment and accessories safely
- Monitor weld quality and make adjustments to ensure strong, clean, and precise joints
- Clean and prepare work surfaces by removing debris, rust, or contaminants
- Work with ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
- Repair and maintain welding equipment and tools
- Follow health and safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
- Document completed tasks and report defects or concerns to supervisors
- Collaborate with fabrication teams or supervisors to resolve issues and meet project deadlines
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent time-served experience in welding
- Strong knowledge of multiple welding techniques and processes
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work from technical documents
- Proven ability to operate various welding machines and tools
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in varying positions for extended periods
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards for welding
- Effective problem-solving and communication skills
- Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Valid certification in welding or willingness to obtain if required
