Welding Foreman / Lead Welder – High-End Stainless Steel Fabrication

Commercial Stainless Services, Inc. in Itasca, IL. is seeking an experienced Welding Foreman (or Lead Welder) to lead our skilled fabrication team in building premium stainless steel (s/s) fixtures, cabinets, tables, and custom products. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a master craftsman with strong technical expertise and proven team management skills in high-quality construction and custom metalwork.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of welders and fabricators on a daily basis, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring efficient workflow to meet project deadlines.
• Oversee the construction and fabrication of high-end stainless steel fixtures, cabinets, tables, and other custom products, maintaining exceptional quality and aesthetic standards.
• Perform and demonstrate advanced welding techniques, with a primary focus on TIG welding for precision and appearance, while utilizing MIG, Stick, and other processes as needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to ensure accurate fit-up, fabrication, and assembly.
• Conduct quality inspections of welds and finished products, coordinate with inspectors if required, and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed industry standards.
• Enforce all safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized shop environment, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues, train team members on best practices, and collaborate with management on production planning and resource needs.
• Knowledge of laser welding processes is a strong plus.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in welding and fabricating high-end stainless steel fixtures, cabinets, tables, or similar custom construction/metalwork.
• Proven leadership experience as a foreman, lead welder, or supervisor, with the ability to effectively manage and develop a team.
• Exceptional proficiency in TIG welding (must be able to produce high-quality, visually appealing welds on stainless steel); strong working knowledge of other welding processes (MIG, Stick, etc.).
• Familiarity with laser welding techniques is highly desired.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and weld procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to producing premium, high-end finished products.
• Relevant welding certifications (e.g., AWS) are a plus but not required if skills and experience are demonstrated.
• Physical stamina for shop environment, including lifting, standing, and working with heavy materials.
