The role focuses on designing toys and games made using MDF sheets and cardboard-style components, including board games, puzzles, and activity-based play products.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer who enjoys building, testing, iterating, and refining physical products while balancing creativity, play value, safety, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and design toys and physical games using MDF sheets and cardboard-based components
- Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle: concept → prototype → playtesting → iteration → final product
- Design game mechanics, rules, and gameplay flow for physical tabletop and board games
- Create detailed component designs including boards, tiles, tokens, interlocking parts, and inserts
- Build physical prototypes using MDF, cardboard, paper, and basic fabrication tools
- Conduct playtesting to evaluate fun, durability, clarity, and user experience
- Iterate designs based on playtest feedback, cost, and manufacturing constraints
- Collaborate with graphic designers, product engineers, and production teams
- Ensure products meet safety, durability, and quality standards
- Prepare assembly instructions, rulebooks, and product documentation
- Support vendor coordination for laser cutting, material sourcing, and finishing
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Toy Design, Industrial Design, Game Design, or related field
- 1–5 years of experience in physical toy design, board games, or cardboard/MDF products
- Strong understanding of physical game design and player interaction
- Hands-on experience working with MDF sheets, cardboard, or similar materials
- Ability to create working prototypes independently
- Familiarity with laser cutting, basic fabrication, and assembly logic
- Strong problem-solving, iteration, and attention to detail
- Good documentation and communication skills
Tools & Skills (Preferred):
- Design tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma
- CAD tools (basic to intermediate): Fusion 360 / SolidWorks
- Prototyping tools and methods
- Experience preparing production-ready files for laser cutting
Good to Have:
