GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for the maintenance and repairs at Garner State Park. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, equipment, and grounds; operates all types of equipment such as: power mowers, electric power tools, tractors, heavy equipment, trucks and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Transports equipment as needed within and between state parks and vendors for repairs. Assists with the preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of and repair to buildings, facilities and grounds. Provides high quality customer service. Provides assistance with resource management activities. Coordinates work with other park staff and volunteers. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure:

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver’s license.

NOTE: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certification.


ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS
:

Experience:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
:

Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

Knowledge of trail maintenance.

Knowledge of equipment maintenance and small engine repair.

Knowledge of general custodial duties.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in using and repairing power mowers and other related mechanized equipment.

Skill in operating heavy equipment such as pay loaders, backhoes, etc.

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public.

Ability to learn with training in performing both arc, mig and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting.

WORKING CONDITIONS
:

Required to perform work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

Required to work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Required to operate a state vehicle.

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
