The Trade Development Manager (TDM) supports the execution of brand and sales initiatives within a specific market or region. Reporting directly to the Market Manager, the TDM plays a key role in driving volume, increasing brand visibility, and strengthening relationships with key on- and off-premise accounts and distributor partners. This role is ideal for a results-driven sales professional with strong organizational skills and a passion for building brands in the field.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work key trade, developing relationships, building brand presence, and increasing sales in assigned areas.
- Secure and expand distribution in assigned trade channels by setting benchmarks and calling on accounts both independently and with distributor personnel.
- Coach, train, and motivate distributor personnel to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales, distribution, and revenue objectives through scheduled and unscheduled meetings, route rides, trade surveys, and regular reporting.
- Review monthly distributor depletion reports to identify opportunities, underperforming accounts, or potential loss of distribution within an account.
- Assist the Market Manager in executing trade strategies and promotional programs to achieve sales goals.
- Support distributor efforts through training, planning, and account-level execution.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, including bars, restaurants, retailers, and wholesalers.
- Monitor account performance, market trends, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for brand growth.
- Implement brand activation programs and ensure compliance with company merchandising standards.
- Partner with marketing teams to coordinate local events, tastings, and sponsorships.
- Assist with forecasting, inventory management, and order tracking in collaboration with operations and sales support teams.
- Provide timely and accurate reporting on territory performance and field activity.
- Represent the company at trade events, distributor meetings, and internal planning sessions.
Specific Skill Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with external partners and internal teams.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM systems.
- Ability to analyze sales data and market intelligence to drive actionable insights.
- Knowledge of the beverage/alcohol industry, including distributor and retail structures.
Qualifications:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
- Flexible schedule, with availability at nights and weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in sales, trade marketing, or field marketing, preferably within the beverage or consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience working with or for a distributor.
- Existing relationships with on- and off-premise accounts in the assigned market.
- Understanding of local compliance and regulatory guidelines for alcohol sales and marketing.
- Passion for the spirits industry and a desire to grow into a Market Manager role.
