Traffic Signal Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Traffic Signal Engineer to join our team in Doha, Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, design, implementation, operation, and optimization of traffic signal systems and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) to improve roadway safety, traffic flow, and operational efficiency across urban and arterial road networks.

This role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on field experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, and government authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, review, and approve traffic signal layouts, timing plans, and technical drawings
• Develop and optimize signal timing for isolated intersections, coordinated corridors, and network-wide systems
• Conduct traffic signal warrant analyses, capacity studies, and safety evaluations
• Program, test, and troubleshoot traffic signal controllers, detectors, and communication systems
• Supervise installation, commissioning, and maintenance of traffic signal equipment
• Perform field inspections, signal turn-ons, and performance assessments
• Support Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including adaptive signal control and traffic management systems
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, utilities, and relevant authorities
• Review traffic signal and traffic management plans for roadway and development projects
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, MUTCD standards, and international best practices
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and project correspondence
• Provide technical support during incidents, emergencies, and special events as required

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic signal engineering and traffic operations
• Strong knowledge of traffic signal design, timing, and operational analysis
• Experience with traffic engineering software such as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and AutoCAD
• Familiarity with traffic signal controllers and detection technologies
• Solid understanding of MUTCD and international traffic engineering standards
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to perform site visits and field work

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering or related field
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent professional registration
• Experience working on large-scale urban or highway projects in the Middle East or GCC region
• Experience with adaptive traffic signal systems and ITS deployments
• Knowledge of local authority requirements and approval processes in Qatar
