Traffic Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of traffic signal systems to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow. The role involves managing traffic controllers, field equipment, and associated civil/electrical elements while supporting corrective and preventive maintenance activities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Traffic / Transport / Electrical / Electronics Engineering.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in traffic signal operations and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic signal controllers (Tyco Eclipse, ATC, QTC) and SCATS.
  • Hands-on skills in troubleshooting controllers, loops, push buttons, and communication links.
  • Familiarity with traffic detection systems and pedestrian crossing technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Operation & Supervision

  • Manage and maintain traffic signal systems including controllers, signal heads, pedestrian signals, push buttons, loop detectors, Smart Pedestrian Systems (SPS), Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption Systems (EVPS), UPS, feeder pillars, and junction civil infrastructure.

Preventive Maintenance (PM)

  • Implement routine inspections and testing of controllers, signal heads, and detectors.
  • Verify signal timing, SCATS connectivity, and synchronization.
  • Inspect cabling, ducting, poles, and civil works for defects or wear.

Corrective Maintenance (CM)

  • Diagnose and repair faults in controllers, signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, and detection systems.
  • Restore SCATS communication and controller configuration after failures.
  • Replace defective lamps, LEDs, UPS units, or control cards as required.

System Configuration & Optimization

  • Configure and fine-tune traffic signal controllers (Tyco Eclipse, ATC, QTC).
  • Implement timing changes and validate operation with SCATS and field conditions.
  • Test new installations and ensure safe commissioning.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain updated records of signal timings, controller configurations, and junction layouts.
  • Document maintenance works, repair histories, and parts replacements.
  • Update asset inventory and junction mapping.

Team & Field Support

  • Supervise technicians performing on-site maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance in troubleshooting signal controllers and detection equipment.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing across the maintenance team.
