Train Manager

Train Manager (also known in some systems as a Guard or Senior Train Supervisor) is a higher-level railway staff member responsible for the overall operation and safety of a train

Responsibility

• Supervises the entire train journey from departure to arrival
• Coordinates with the driver (locomotive pilot) and station staff
• Ensures passenger safety and comfort
• Handles emergencies (delays, technical issues, passenger problems)
• Checks that all procedures are followed (signals, timings, documentation)
• Oversees onboard staff like ticket checkers

Eligibility & Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree
• Key skills:
• Leadership & decision-making
• Communication skills
• Problem-solving under pressure
• Knowledge of railway rules & safetyCareer Path

Typical progression:

• Ticket Checker / TTE
• Senior TTE
• Train Manager / Guard

Work Environment

• Works onboard trains during journeys
• Long and irregular hours (including nights)
• High responsibility for safety and operations
• 15 dys work 15 days rest
