Trainee - Hybrid Laborer/Operator

Riverside Contracting, Inc. is seeking inexperienced candidates for its Hybrid Laborer-Operator Training Program on a project in Brockway, MT. This is a 500-hour on-the-job training program monitored by the Montana Department of Transportation’s Office of Civil Rights which establishes training opportunities designed to move inexperienced individuals into journey-level positions.

Experiential learning is provided through the following Program components:

  • Safety
    • Understand and apply company and jobsite safety protocols
  • Orientation and Observation
    • Learn roles of laborers, operators, and drivers
    • Observe and understand jobsite coordination and construction workflows
  • Care, Maintenance, and Record Keeping
    • Perform and document basic inspection and preventative maintenance
    • Assist with site preparation and cleanup
    • Maintain a safe and organized work environment
  • Labor & Operation of heavy equipment to service jobsite needs including but not limited to:
    • Demolition
    • Clearing & Grubbing
    • Setting grade
    • Shoveling and material placement
    • Installing geotextile or pipe
    • Operating skid steers, excavators, rollers, loaders, and/or scrapers

Start Date and Location: April 20, 2026 in Brockway, MT

Job Type: Full-time, Temporary

Wage: Begins at $20.73 hourly with rate increases throughout the 500-hour program

Work authorization: United States

Little to no experience in highway construction

Current driver's license and reliable transportation

Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings

Ability to work long, irregular, and varied hours, 40 – 60 hours per week

Ability to work in inclement weather

Ability to stand, bend, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly
