Job Summary

The Trainee Manager supports the day-to-day execution of waste collection, processing, recycling, and disposal activities at an operational site. This role is designed for candidates with a college degree and 3+ years of hands-on industry experience, who are transitioning toward leadership positions. The trainee will assist in managing operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating teams, and improving efficiency across waste handling processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Support:

- Assist in overseeing daily waste management operations including collection, sorting, transfer, recycling, and disposal.

- Support scheduling and coordination of collection routes, vehicle dispatch, and site activities

- Monitor material flow within the facility to ensure efficient handling and processing

Compliance & Environmental Standards

- Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations

- Assist in inspections, audits, and corrective action implementation

- Promote a strong safety culture across field and site operations

- Support incident reporting, investigation, and preventive measures

- Ensure proper handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste

Performance Monitoring

- Track and analyze key operational metrics such as: Route efficiency and service completion - Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements

Team Coordination

-Support supervision of front-line staff including drivers, sorters, and site workers

-Assist with shift scheduling and workforce allocation

- Participate in onboarding and training of employees on safety and operational processes

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

- Coordinate with third-party haulers, recycling partners, and disposal facilities

- Monitor service delivery and compliance with contract requirements

Reporting & Documentation

- Maintain accurate logs for waste volumes, compliance records, and operational performance

- Assist in preparing reports for management and regulatory agencies

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (required) in:

Environmental Science or

Logistics / Supply Chain pr

Business Administration or

Engineering or related field

Experience

- Minimum 3+ years of experience in: Waste management operations (preferred), OR Logistics, transportation, or industrial operations

Experience should include hands-on operational work, not necessarily full managerial responsibility

Skills & Competencies

- Knowledge of waste management processes (collection, recycling, disposal)

- Understanding of environmental and safety regulations

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

- Basic leadership and team coordination capability

- Ability to work in a physically active, fast-paced environment

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, or local environmental regulations

- Experience with waste tracking systems or route management tools ( Samsara and Fleetio)
