Position Summary:

We are seeking a Trainee SQL Server Database Administrator who will assist in supporting SQL databases while learning to deliver performance, availability, and security. The trainee will gain exposure to designing, developing, and maintaining basic database solutions and ETL processes using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and related technologies under supervision.


Experience & Education:

  • Basic knowledge of SQL Server and databases (academic coursework or self‑study).

  • Familiarity with Azure SQL, SSIS, or ADF concepts is a plus.

  • Completed a BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt quickly to new tools and technologies.


Specific day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Assist in installation/configuration of SQL Server instances in lab or test environments.

  • Learn to secure data and manage user access under guidance.

  • Practice back‑ups and recovery procedures on non‑production systems.

  • Monitor logs and basic performance metrics with supervision.

  • Support routine maintenance tasks such as patching and updates.

  • Shadow senior DBAs in troubleshooting database issues.

  • Help document performance tuning strategies and observe optimization techniques.

  • Contribute to compliance and documentation by maintaining records of tasks.

  • Assist in building simple SSIS packages for ETL practice.

  • Write and test basic SQL queries and stored procedures.

  • Maintain documentation such as data flow diagrams and technical notes.


Technical Skills
:

  • Basic understanding of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

  • Exposure to Azure SQL Database concepts.

  • Introductory knowledge of SSIS and ADF workflows.

  • Familiarity with writing simple T‑SQL queries.

  • Awareness of database security and backup concepts.

  • Willingness to learn scripting (PowerShell, T‑SQL).

  • General knowledge of Windows OS.

  • Interest in exploring Azure Cloud fundamentals.

  • Confident. Comfortable playing the role of a SQL expert on the team, and working with customers directly, when required.

  • Problem Solver. Organized and efficient approach to troubleshooting (what is the realm of possibilities, how can I eliminate each, where should I focus my efforts).

  • Attention to Detail. Plans, tests, and executes in an efficient and organized manner with clear documentation, minimizing operational risks (especially to our customers).

  • Persistence. Demonstrates tenacity and willingness to go the distance to get something done.

  • Teamwork. Reaches out to peers and supervisors to establish an overall collaborative relationship.

  • Knowledge-sharing. Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
