Job Title: Trainer – General Duty Assistant (GDA) Trainee
Job Summary
The Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality training to candidates in basic patient care and hospital support services. The trainer imparts knowledge and hands-on skills required for assisting nurses and doctors in clinical and non-clinical tasks, ensuring patient comfort, hygiene, safety, mobility support, infection control, and ward management. The role includes classroom teaching, demonstrations, clinical simulations, assessments, documentation, and placement/OJT support aligned with relevant Qualification Packs (QP/NOS) and healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Training Delivery (Theory + Practical)
- Deliver structured training for General Duty Assistant / Hospital Attendant / Ward Assistant batches as per curriculum/QP/NOS.
Teach core concepts of:
- Basics of human body and common health conditions
- Patient care needs across age groups
- Hospital routines, roles, ethics, and discipline
- Use learner-centered methods: demonstrations, role plays, videos, bedside simulations, case scenarios.
2. Practical Skills & Clinical Simulations
Train trainees on real-world GDA tasks, including
Patient Hygiene & Comfort Care
- Bathing, grooming, oral care, bed making
- Pressure sore prevention and patient positioning
- Comfort and privacy maintenance
Mobility & Transfer Support
- Helping with ambulation, wheelchairs, stretchers
- Safe lifting/transfer methods and fall prevention
Nutrition & Elimination Support
- Assisting with feeding, fluid intake tracking
- Bedpan/urinal use, catheter care support (as per SOP)
Vital Signs & Basic Observations
- Measuring temperature, pulse, respiration, BP (basic level)
- Reporting abnormal findings to nurse/supervisor
Specimen Collection Support
- Assisting in correct collection/labeling/transport as per SOP
Emergency Assistance Basics
- First response support, CPR awareness (basic), emergency protocols
3. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
Train on:
- Hand hygiene (5 moments), PPE use
- Biomedical waste segregation and disposal
- Cleaning and disinfection routines
- Isolation precautions and prevention of cross-infection
- Ensure strict compliance during practicals.
4. Hospital/Ward Support & SOPs
- Teach ward/clinic support functions:
- Patient admission/discharge support procedures
- Linen, equipment movement and storage
- Transporting patients within hospital
- Assisting nurses during rounds and procedures (non-invasive support only)
- Maintaining patient records/logs (basic documentation)
5. Communication & Patient Interaction
- Train candidates on:
- Professional communication with patients and families
- Empathy, emotional support, and dignity of care
- Handling difficult/stressed patients politely
- Escalation/reporting etiquette with clinical staff
6. Employability & Workplace Readiness
- Deliver modules on:
- Workplace ethics and hospital discipline
- Teamwork, punctuality, grooming, and conduct
- Basic computer/MIS awareness if required
- Prepare trainees for interviews, OJT, and hospital culture.
7. Assessment & Certification Support
- Prepare lesson plans, practice checklists, assignments, and mock tests.
- Conduct:
- Theory exams
- Practical skill assessments (OSCE-style or simulation based)
- Maintain evidence: attendance, practical logs, assessment sheets, candidate portfolios, photos/videos as required.
- Support SSC/third-party assessments and certification processes.
8. Batch Management & Learner Support
- Manage classroom/skills lab discipline, motivation, inclusivity, and safety.
- Identify slow learners and provide remedial coaching.
- Track progress against learning outcomes and course timelines.
9. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain daily training registers, session plans, feedback forms, and lab inventory.
- Submit weekly/monthly reports to Training Manager / Project Head.
- Track placement/OJT details and post-placement follow-ups where required.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Minimum: GNM / ANM / B.Sc Nursing / Diploma in Nursing / Paramedical / Life Sciences Graduate.
- Preferred: Certified GDA/Healthcare Trainer or ToT certification from relevant SSC.
Experience
- 2–5 years of clinical/hospital experience in nursing assistance, ward operations, home healthcare, or related areas.
- Prior experience as a trainer/facilitator in skill development programs preferred.
- Exposure to hospital IPC standards and patient care protocols is mandatory.
