Position Summary: The Transit Administrator plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Marble Valley Regional Transit District. This position combines customer service, administrative support, and operational coordination to ensure safe, efficient, and rider-focused public transportation services throughout the Rutland region. *Full-time availability is preferred, though part-time schedules may be considered based on qualifications and business needs.


Key Responsibilities:


Customer Service & Fare Sales

  • Sell bus passes and explain fare options to riders.
  • Assist customers with ticket kiosks and fare technology.
  • Provide route, schedule, and general transit information.
  • Respond to in-person, and email inquiries in a professional manner.

Ridership Data & Reporting

  • Track and document daily ridership and verify farebox data.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare routine reports.
  • Support data collection for grants, compliance, and planning purposes.
  • Assist with resolving rider issues and receiving feedback forms.

Administrative & Inventory Management

  • Manage inventory of bus passes, tickets, and related materials.
  • Order office and operational supplies.

Cash Handling & Compliance

  • Process transactions and reconcile daily cash and pass sales.
  • Ensure accuracy and accountability in all related financial procedures,

Additional Duties

  • Log and track in person customer complaints and service incidents.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for fare kiosks and equipment.
  • Coordinate with maintenance on facilities l issues.
  • Assist with rider outreach, including helping riders navigate the system.
  • Contribute to marketing and community outreach efforts when needed.
  • Provide general administrative and operational support as assigned.
  • Maintain safety protocols.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of customer service, administrative, or public transportation experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Excel or similar systems).
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and responsibly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates in a transit system environments. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and fare systems.

Duties may occasionally require bending, reaching, and moving within transit facilities or vehicles. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone or radio, and to maintain sufficient vision and hearing to perform essential duties. Work may involve moderate noise levels typical of transit operations.
