Transit Dispatcher

POSITION SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• With routes/drivers on the road, assess any emergency/urgent situations and work with Transit Supervisors, staff, and customers to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Communicates respectfully with drivers and customers regarding any schedule adjustments and develops effective working relationships with other staff, customers and the public.
• Creates daily work assignments for drivers and prepares drivers packets for the next day service.
• Dispatches vans and drivers using various communication devices.
• Provides assistance to Transit Supervisors for annual performance appraisals for Transit Drivers.
• Receives and forwards customer feedback to the Transit Supervisors in accordance with department policy.
• Takes reservations, answers questions, register new riders and, when needed, collect pre-paid fare applying customer service methods.
• Transports passengers when needed.
• Uses a variety of communication systems and automated scheduling software to schedule service, monitor operations, coordinate vehicles and drivers, and adjust schedules to optimize service delivery.
• Uses judgment to resolve unusual situations or situations that occur in the field such as, errors in pick-up or drop off locations, changes, additions, and modification in services, and change out of broken equipment to ensure service delivery.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the development and implementation of building, custodial and fleet maintenance activities.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques and methods.
• Knowledge of Federal, Town and Department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
• Skill in safely operating Town vehicles.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office, with an emphasis in Excel, Word, and Access.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft software, with an emphasis in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A High School diploma or GED.
• One (1) year experience in transit scheduling and/or dispatching.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is performed in an indoor environment.
• Must be able to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds.
Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.

• This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing as required by FTA CFR 49.
• This position will be required to go through the Transit Services Division’s Reasonable Suspicion Training Program for Transit Supervisors and obtain certification.
• This position will be required to go through the Passenger Assistance, Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) program.
