Job Purpose:
The Transport Incharge is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the transportation department. This includes ensuring timely vehicle dispatch, route planning, driver coordination, vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance, and overall transportation efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fleet Management
- Oversee the deployment, scheduling, and routing of all company-owned and hired vehicles.
- Ensure optimal utilization of fleet resources.
- Monitor vehicle fuel usage and mileage.
- Driver Supervision
- Assign and manage driver duties and shifts.
- Ensure all drivers adhere to safety protocols and traffic rules.
- Maintain driver records and ensure valid licenses and permits.
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Schedule regular vehicle servicing and maintenance.
- Coordinate with garages/workshops for repairs.
- Maintain vehicle service history records.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure all vehicles have valid insurance, pollution certificates, permits, and registration.
- Maintain logs for transport-related documents and incident reports.
- Comply with RTO and other transport regulations.
- Cost Management
- Monitor transportation costs and find cost-saving opportunities.
- Control fuel and maintenance expenses.
- Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate with departments to fulfill transport requirements (e.g., delivery, pickups, employee transportation).
- Manage logistics for special events or high-priority movements.
- Safety & Incident Management
- Enforce safety standards and conduct regular inspections.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns or accidents and manage emergency transport needs.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in transport/fleet management (1-3 years minimum).
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, routing, and transport regulations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and fleet management software (if applicable).
- Problem-solving and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage a team.
