We’re looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented person to help shape how people move through our city. In this role, you’ll review and respond to requests for speed limit and signage changes, address truck route concerns, and work closely with developers to install and formalize new traffic signs. The ideal candidate is someone who understands the impact of safe, efficient transportation systems and enjoys working collaboratively to make streets safer and smarter for everyone.

Evaluate and respond to requests for new or changed signage and speed limits
Conduct traffic safety and compliance studies for truck routes
Coordinate with developers to ensure proper traffic signage is installed in new developments
Maintain and update official traffic schedules and documentation for signage and speed regulations
Analyze traffic data to support evidence-based decisions
Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations on traffic analysis and recommendations
This position will be required to operate a City owned vehicle as a part of the regular duties of this role
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Engineering, or related field or related field and 3 to 5 years’ experience in transportation, urban or regional planning, transportation engineering, or related work
Licenses or Certifications:
North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or
the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Knowledge of:
Civil engineering principles, practices, and standards ((City, State, and Federal (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices))
Modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications, ArcGIS online, Cityworks
Skill in:
Preparing technical reports and documents
Interpreting professional engineering theory, techniques, practices and procedures
Conducting research and data analysis
Verbal and written communication
Coordinating deadlines and prioritizing competing demands
Ability to:
Organize and maintain documentation, data records and files

Sedentary:?Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.?
Work Environment:
Employees will frequently work in an office environment and will occasionally work in an outdoorenvironment, near moving traffic on a construction site, in a vehicle in a warehouse environment and shop environment.
Work Exposures:
Employees will occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate,?extreme cold (below 32 degrees),?extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts and?loud noises.
