Description

The Transportation Authority of Calhoun County (TACC) is looking for a Safety, Security and Training Manager to plan, lead, and manage the Authority’s Safety, Security, and Training Programs. This position is responsible for overseeing and providing direction to all personnel as it relates to safety, security and training. This position works closely with the Operations Manager – Fleet & Facilities, Operations Manager – Max, and the Operations Manager – Flex & Move. Work is performed under moderate supervision from the Director of Operations.
This position is responsible for administering the Authority’s Entry Level Drivers Training (ELDT) Program.

Examples of Duties

  • Develops, manages, promotes, organizes, and delivers professional and technical training on a variety of topics. Develops and ensures proper preparation and maintenance of records, reports, statistics, and evaluations of program activities and instructors. Maintains multi-year training calendar.
  • Coordinates and evaluates internal and external trainers. Determines when to use training consultants, research skills/costs and makes recommendations on hiring.
  • Audits training programs to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, contract provisions, and FTA requirements; determines and implements corrective actions as required/needed.
  • Reviews, interprets, and implements applicable state, federal and industry standards to include conferring with licensing agencies/associations regarding compliance issues and regulations.
  • Performs consultant contract administration providing professional training to include: determining scope of services required; selecting, overseeing and evaluating consultants’ work; ensuring compliance with Authority goals, standards and objectives; monitoring schedules and budgets; and recommending and implementing corrective actions as determined appropriate.
  • Assist with developing, implementing and updating agency PTASP. Works with the Director of Operations & Chief Safety Officer to assess plan needs and identify areas for improvement. Provides narratives, results, assessments, presentations, and statistical reports to the Senior Management Team (SMT).
  • Assists with the implementation of effective training programs for all staff using classroom, computer-based, and on-the-road training (where applicable); training program includes new hire, refresher, and remedial training to ensure safe work habits, maximize customer safety, and protect Authority property.
  • Coordinates, trains, and leads the Communication and Optimal Resolution Team (CANDOR). Prepares Preventability Determination notice to employees, to include any recommended remedial training. Meets regularly with managers to discuss any trend information.
  • Assist with development and tracking of safety training budget.
  • Participates in/Represents the Authority on various committees to present and discuss trend data and facilitate discussion on action items. May be required to represent the Authority on external boards or at events.
  • Utilizes networks and resources, in and out of the transit industry; stays current with developments in the field through training literature, conferences, and seminars; presents training information and training programs to other training professionals and incorporates current best training practices.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelors/Technical degree in business administration, safety, logistics, organizational development, or related field.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in public transportation in a supervisory, safety, or training related role.
  • CDL B with Passenger Endorsement (Held for a minimum of 2 years)
  • DOT Medical Card (1 Year Minimum)
  • Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) Certificate, within 3 years.
  • A combination of education, training, and extensive experience in a related field that results in demonstrated competency performing the work may be substituted or combined to meet minimum education and/or experience requirements.
  • Strong computer skills with proven competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone. Work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
