Transportation Coordinator

Grade 127- New hire placement range: $82,241.00 to $93,990.00, depending on experience.


Provides unified leadership for all transportation functions, including student routing, dispatching, fleet maintenance, and staff supervision.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Provides leadership for all aspects of staff supervision including selection of new team members, performance evaluations and employee discipline.
  • Direct and lead all transportation staff, including the Routing Specialist, Dispatcher, Bus Drivers, Bus Attendants and Mechanics.
  • Coordinate and oversee training for drivers and assistants to ensure they maintain required licensing and certifications.
  • Promote and maintain professional working relationships with both staff and external vendors.
  • Provide unified leadership for all transportation functions to ensure a cohesive department.

Fleet & Operations Management

  • Oversee the mechanical shop to ensure the school bus fleet and district vehicles are maintained for safe and efficient operations.
  • Manage student transportation routing and dispatching to ensure safe and timely arrival for all daily routes.
  • Maintain rigorous vehicle safety inspection schedules and all associated documentation.
  • Apply mathematical concepts, such as fractions and percentages, to manage technical data and fleet logistics.


Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all transportation operations comply strictly with DOT regulations and state requirements.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of State and Federal Rules regarding student transportation and the rights of students with disabilities.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of district roadways and emergency facilities to ensure student safety.
  • Ability to handle data input.


Administrative & Strategic Planning

  • Utilize analytical thinking and planning ahead to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Develop technical writing for reports and correspondence to communicate department needs effectively.
  • Present information clearly and effectively to families/guardians and district stakeholders.
  • Uphold the district's mission of excellence while performing as a member of the "Phoenix #1 family."


Auxiliary Responsibilities

  • Maintains operational flexibility to address emerging needs and performs other related professional duties as assigned to ensure uninterrupted District services and operational excellence.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience as a certified school bus driver
  • Supervisory or personnel management experience
  • Valid class B CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  • DPS Classroom and Behind the Wheel Trainer certificates


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • College course work
  • Training in administration or management
  • Training in professional communication


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Knowledge of:

  • State and Federal Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines relative to student transportation; rights of students with disabilities and parent rights; and detailed knowledge of district roadways and emergency facilities.

Skilled in:

  • Technical writing for reports and correspondence; application of mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios); and effective presentation of information to the public.

Ability to:

  • Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions in various forms (written, oral, diagram); and promote harmonious working relationships with staff and vendors.
