Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200+ employees and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit.
Responsibilities:
- The Transportation Dispatcher will be responsible for a variety of activities related to the transportation of patients, specimens, equipment, and call center duties.
- They will greet as well as assist patients and visitors at the hospital and clinics as directed.

Communicate with patients in a warm and friendly manner regarding their care as it relates to the transport function

Answer the telephone within 3 rings, identifying self and department

Log requests for the Environmental Services, Linen, and Patient Transport departments

Enter requests into the EPIC electronic medical record system appropriately, and escalate based on priority level

Use I-Pod/Transport system to receive proper hand-off communication

Follow up with hospital staff regarding delay times, request updates, and entry errors

Safely transport patients via beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and IV poles by adhering to Transport protocols, patient safety guidelines, infection control, and general hospital safety standards

Demonstrate safe patient handling using proper body mechanics in lifting, transferring, and positioning patients

Verify two hospital-approved identifiers for patient identification on each transport

Clean and disinfect transport equipment on all patient and transporter contact surfaces before and after each patient use

Demonstrate proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact

Follow proper oxygen handling

Maintain patient’s strict confidentiality (HIPAA) of all information and all matters concerning patients, physicians, and hospital personnel

Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements:

High School Graduate or GED.
-
At least 1 year of experience in a hospital environment or within customer service.

Strong knowledge of phone and computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, and I-pod handheld devices.
Preferred Job Requirements:

Diploma from a vocational or technical program.

Previous transporter or call center experience.
-
Experience with EPIC software a plus.
Rate of pay is determined based on experience and education, and may include other pay components such as differentials and call pay based on role.
