This Transportation Engineer III – Senior Designer position is a professional civil engineering position that is an expert in various aspects of highway design. The Senior Designer provides advanced design support on complex highway projects including oversight and review of both preliminary and final design with particular attention to constructability, consistency of design, and cost.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing training and mentoring to in-house staff as well as consultants,
  • Determining and interpreting design standards,
  • Working as a member of the Program's Design Exception team providing input and recommendations, and,
  • Helping to determine relevant Engineering Instructions and Highway Design Guidance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a Professional Engineer and four (4) years work experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer, two (2) years of which must demonstrate the performance of significantly complex engineering science, competency in evaluating risk and applying sound engineering judgement as it applies to planning, project development, and/or maintenance of public works structures and facilities. LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Licensure as a Professional Engineer as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
