Job Responsibilities

At Richland Construction A, performs construction inspection on assigned projects as a certified asphalt, earthwork and base, pavement preservation, concrete, and foundations inspector. Assists with construction inspection, sampling, and testing when necessary advanced training or certification has not yet been obtained. Sampling and testing construction materials as required in conformance with the SCDOT Construction Manual. Records and documents observations made while performing construction inspection on assigned projects. Notes any important conversations with contractors, utility company representatives, and citizens. Trains in the management of all phases of highway and bridge construction projects. Conducts weekly project inspection for sediment and erosion control on assigned projects as a certified CEPSCI (Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector). Monitors work zones on assigned projects by performing regular inspections and completing weekly 600.02 forms (Work Zone Traffic Control Review) for day and nighttime inspections as directed. Verifies contractor line & grade through the use of rod & level, GPS, total station, and by taking basic measurements with tape measures, bubble levels, etc.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.


Additional Comments

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
