TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for one (1) Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief based in Fort Worth, TX. All the training, tools, and uniforms will be provided, and we have lots of opportunities to grow within the agency. Salary Grade: Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief: A20, $51,258.00 - $81,351.00 (Annually)

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs and organize response of crews.
Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
Inspects roads while enroute to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
Operates light and heavy equipment.
Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience: 5 years' experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a 'N' endorsement at the time of application.

Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.

Operating light and heavy highway equipment.
Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.

Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
Maintaining a safe working environment.
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Delegates both routine and important tasks and decisions; shares authority but has ultimate accountability.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device.
Medium work: Lift up to 50 pounds at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 pounds.
Standing-prolonged periods of time.
Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
Visual Acuity - operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
Visual Acuity - determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures.
